Abandoned cart WhatsApp message template examples you can copy

An abandoned cart WhatsApp message template is a Marketing template, approved by Meta, that reminds a shopper what they left in their cart and links them back to it. Below are examples to adapt and submit, then the rules Meta applies to them.

The four variables these examples use

WhatsApp templates use numbered placeholders that are filled in for each shopper. The examples below follow the order Chatzyn's WooCommerce cart recovery fills them in, so they work with it once approved.

What each placeholder becomes
PlaceholderFilled withSample value for Meta's review
{{1}}The shopper's first namePriya
{{2}}Number of items in the cart3
{{3}}Cart value₹1,499.00
{{4}} (optional)A link back to their cart (with Store Connect 1.2.0 or later it refills their exact cart)https://yourshop.in/cart

Use either the first three variables or all four. Meta reviews a template with the samples you give, so give realistic ones.

English examples

  • Friendly reminder: Hi {{1}}, you left {{2}} item(s) worth {{3}} in your cart. They are still saved for you. Finish your order here: {{4}} Thank you for shopping with us.
  • Help offer: Hi {{1}}, did something stop you from checking out? Your {{2}} item(s), worth {{3}}, are waiting. Reply to this message if you have a question about size, delivery or payment. Your cart: {{4}} We are happy to help.
  • Stock nudge: Hi {{1}}, the {{2}} item(s) in your cart ({{3}}) are still available, but we cannot hold stock for long. Complete your order: {{4}} See you soon.
  • Three-variable version, no link: Hi {{1}}, you still have {{2}} item(s) worth {{3}} in your cart on our website. Visit the shop any time to finish your order.

Hindi example

Submit it with the language set to Hindi. Keep the placeholders exactly as they are.

नमस्ते {{1}}, आपके कार्ट में {{3}} के {{2}} प्रोडक्ट अभी भी रखे हैं। अपना ऑर्डर यहाँ पूरा करें: {{4}} धन्यवाद।

Malayalam example

Submit it with the language set to Malayalam.

Meta's rules for cart reminder templates

  • Category: Marketing. A cart reminder asks someone to buy, so Meta treats it as marketing, not utility. Submitting it as Utility usually gets it re-categorised or rejected.
  • Opt-in: send it only to shoppers who agreed to receive WhatsApp messages from you, for example with a consent box at checkout that is not pre-ticked.
  • Variables: numbered {{1}}, {{2}} and so on, in order, with no gaps and a sample for each. Do not start or end the message with a variable.
  • Enough text: Meta rejects a template with too many variables for its length, so keep a full sentence or two of fixed wording around them.
  • Name: lowercase letters, numbers and underscores only, for example cart_reminder_en.
  • Language: each language is its own template under the same name. Chatzyn's cart recovery sends one template to every shopper, so choose the language most of your customers use.
  • Charges: Meta charges marketing messages per delivered message. See the WhatsApp API pricing page for current rates.

Add a "Stop promotions" quick-reply button

Give shoppers a way out other than blocking your number. Blocks lower your number's quality rating, and a low rating limits marketing for every customer.

Add a quick-reply button labelled "Stop promotions". In Chatzyn, a customer who taps it, or types STOP, is opted out on every sending path. Keep that button label in English even on Hindi or Malayalam templates: the opt-out check matches the exact words, and Hindi and Malayalam equivalents are not on the list.

How Chatzyn sends cart reminders

  • One reminder per abandoned cart, ever.
  • You choose the wait after the shopper last touched the cart, from 15 minutes to 7 days. The default is 60 minutes. Nothing shorter than 15 is allowed, because it reaches people who are still shopping.
  • Quiet hours in your timezone: a reminder that comes due at night is held and sent in the morning.
  • No reminder if the same customer already placed a newer order, even on another device.
  • Carts older than 7 days are never messaged.

Cart recovery currently works with WooCommerce through the Chatzyn Store Connect plugin. See the WooCommerce WhatsApp page for setup.

Questions people ask

Is an abandoned cart message a utility or marketing template?

Marketing. It encourages a purchase the customer has not made, which is how Meta defines marketing. Order confirmations and delivery updates are utility.

Can I send a cart reminder to someone who did not opt in?

You should not. Meta requires opt-in for business-initiated messages, and unwanted messages get your number blocked and reported. Chatzyn sends WhatsApp cart reminders only to shoppers who ticked the consent box at checkout.

How long should I wait before sending the reminder?

Chatzyn's default is 60 minutes, and you can set anything from 15 minutes to 7 days. Much sooner and you reach people who are still comparing in another tab.

Can I put the cart link in a button instead of the message text?

Meta allows URL buttons, but Chatzyn's cart recovery fills the link into the message body as {{4}}. Use the body version to work with it.

How long does Meta take to approve the template?

Meta says a decision can take up to 24 hours. You can track it under Settings, Templates in Chatzyn, where it shows as pending, approved or rejected.

Can I write the template in Hindi or Malayalam?

Yes. Create the template with Hindi or Malayalam as its language. Keep the numbered placeholders unchanged and give samples for each.

How many cart reminders should I send?

One. A second or third reminder about the same cart is what gets numbers blocked. Chatzyn sends one per cart and no more.
