What your shop can send on WhatsApp
Four automations run from one store connection. You switch each one on separately under Commerce, Store automations, and each one uses a WhatsApp template that Meta has approved.
- Order confirmation: one message when the shop reports a new order, with the order number, total, items or a link back to your shop. It is never sent twice for the same order, even if the shop sends the event again.
- Cash-on-delivery confirmation: COD orders get Confirm and Cancel buttons instead of the normal confirmation. A Cancel cancels the order in WooCommerce.
- Abandoned cart recovery: one reminder per abandoned cart, on WhatsApp to shoppers who ticked the consent box at checkout, or by email from your own shop for the rest.
- Review requests: a few days after an order is marked Completed, the customer is asked to rate their order without leaving WhatsApp. The review is published on the first product in the order.
How the WooCommerce WhatsApp plugin works
The plugin only reports what happens in your shop. It sends each order status change to Chatzyn as a signed message: order number, status, totals, line items, and the customer's billing name, email and phone. It never sends payment details, and it holds no Meta login or WhatsApp credential.
Chatzyn matches the customer, fills in your approved template and sends it from your connected WhatsApp number. So the message text and the on/off switches live in your Chatzyn dashboard, next to the number's quality rating, not inside WordPress.
If Chatzyn cannot be reached, orders are queued on your server and retried for about four hours. Your checkout never waits on Chatzyn. A Delivery table under WooCommerce, Settings, Chatzyn shows what is waiting, what was delivered and the exact error on anything that failed.
- Works with cash on delivery, bank transfer and cheque orders, because it follows the order status change rather than the payment-complete event that WooCommerce skips for COD.
- Compatible with High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS) and the block-based checkout.
- Needs WordPress 6.2 or later and PHP 7.4 or later.
WhatsApp COD order confirmation
Fake and refused cash-on-delivery orders cost you shipping both ways. With COD confirmation on, a COD order gets a WhatsApp message with two buttons, for example "Yes, confirm" and "Cancel order".
If the customer taps Confirm, a note is added to the order. If they tap Cancel, the order is cancelled in your WooCommerce shop. Only the first tap counts. An order that is already shipped or completed is never cancelled from a chat.
This needs an approved utility template with two quick-reply buttons: the first confirms, the second cancels. It needs plugin version 1.3.0 or later.
WhatsApp abandoned cart recovery for WooCommerce
Turn on "Record abandoned carts" and "Ask for WhatsApp consent at checkout" in the Chatzyn section of your WooCommerce settings. Without the consent box, no shopper can receive a WhatsApp reminder. You can leave sending off at first: carts are still recorded, so you can see what you are losing before you message anyone.
When you switch recovery on, each abandoned cart gets one message, ever. You choose how long to wait after the shopper last touched their cart (the default is 60 minutes) and set quiet hours in your own timezone. A cart that comes due during quiet hours is held and sent afterwards.
Before sending, Chatzyn checks whether the same customer has placed a newer order, for example on their phone after building the cart on a laptop. If they already bought, no reminder goes out. Carts older than 7 days are never messaged, so switching it on does not message months of old carts.
The reminder can include a link that refills the shopper's exact cart, products and coupon, on any device. Only products come back: no name, phone or address. If WhatsApp cannot reach a shopper (no phone, or no WhatsApp consent) and you have "Send recovery emails from this shop" switched on, your own WooCommerce mailer sends one email instead.

Product reviews from WhatsApp
Choose how many days to wait after an order is marked Completed (the default is 3). The customer gets one message and rates the order inside WhatsApp. Requests are held overnight, between 9pm and 9am your time.
A review is published on your product page as a "Verified owner" review, with the buyer's first name, only if the buyer ticks the box agreeing to it. Every rating is published, good or bad, and moderation follows your own WooCommerce setting. A 1 or 2 star review also opens a chat with your team so you can fix the problem.
Review requests go only to orders completed after you switch the automation on. They need plugin version 1.4.0 or later.
Consent and template rules you should know
- Order confirmations and COD confirmations use the Utility template category, so they do not need a marketing opt-in. Meta still expects the customer to have agreed to hear from your business on WhatsApp, for example through a line at checkout.
- Cart recovery uses a Marketing template and only goes on WhatsApp to shoppers who ticked the consent box at your checkout. The box is never pre-ticked, and the exact sentence each shopper agreed to is stored with their opt-in.
- A signed-in customer counts as opted in only if they ticked the box on an earlier order. Being signed in is not consent.
- A customer who replies STOP, or taps a "Stop promotions" button, is opted out of marketing on every sending path in Chatzyn. Order and COD confirmations, which are utility messages, still reach them.
- Workspace-wide marketing pause and the number's quality hold also apply to cart reminders, so a number at risk stops sending marketing automatically.
Set it up
- Connect your WhatsApp number to Chatzyn first (Settings, Channels).
- In Chatzyn, open Settings, Integrations, WooCommerce and press "Download plugin".
- In WordPress: Plugins, Add New, Upload Plugin, choose the file, Install, Activate.
- Connect the store on the same Chatzyn card, then copy the Webhook URL and the signing secret into WooCommerce, Settings, Chatzyn.
- In Chatzyn, open Commerce, Store automations, pick the number and an approved template for each automation and switch it on.

Questions people ask
Is there a free WooCommerce WhatsApp order notification plugin?
The Chatzyn Store Connect plugin costs nothing to download and is licensed GPLv2. It reports orders to Chatzyn, and Chatzyn sends the WhatsApp messages, so you need a Chatzyn plan and Meta charges per delivered template message. See Pricing for plans and the free trial.
Does it send messages from my own WhatsApp number?
Yes. Messages go out from the WhatsApp Business number you connect to Chatzyn through Meta's official Cloud API. Eligible numbers can use Coexistence and keep the WhatsApp Business app working on the same number.
Why are my WooCommerce orders arriving but no WhatsApp message is sent?
Nothing is sent until you choose an approved Utility template for the automation in Commerce, Store automations and switch it on. A Marketing template is refused for order confirmations.
Does it work with cash on delivery orders?
Yes. The plugin follows order status changes, so COD, bank transfer and cheque orders are reported like any other. You can also send COD orders a confirm or cancel message instead of a plain confirmation.
Can I send abandoned cart reminders on WhatsApp to everyone?
No, and you should not want to. WhatsApp reminders go only to shoppers who ticked the consent box at checkout. For the rest, your shop can send one recovery email instead.
Will a customer get two reminders for the same cart?
No. Each cart is claimed before the message is sent, so it gets one reminder at most. A customer who already bought, even on another device, gets none.
Does the plugin slow down my checkout?
No. Orders are queued on your server and sent in the background, with retries for about four hours if Chatzyn is unreachable. Checkout never waits on Chatzyn.
Does it work with Shopify too?
Shopify stores can connect with an Admin API access token and sync orders into the same workspace. The plugin, COD confirmation, cart recovery and WhatsApp reviews described here are for WooCommerce.
